"An estimated 9.8 million tons of textiles were generated in 2001, or 4 percent of total municipal solid waste (MSW) generation." source Wow, do we really waste that much clothing in a year? Are we Hoarders? I know I'm guilty of seeing a spot on a shirt and immediately trashing it or maybe trashing those too little clothes instead of hitting the gym. Reading this statistic has made me think a little differently about instantly trashing clothes. Many pieces we deem as trash, have perfectly good fabric that can be recycled or restored with a little DIY. To challenge my creativity, and save a little money, June has been officially named Styling Scraps Month on Avid Accents. You'll see alot of DIY's on here over the next month because I'm placing these rules in effect now:- No purchasing new accessories (No hats, scarves, earrings, brooches, necklaces, rings, bracelets, handbags, watches, sunglasses, shoes or belts)
- A one non-DIY or non-Revamped accessory limit to each outfit this Month.
- I must use recycled fabric in some kind of way on my DIY Accessories
That's it! This should get my creative wheels turning and produce some fabulous accessories being that they are all i can wear!
I've DIYed a few items and wore them so the First Post is coming up later today!
I'm thinking this challenge is gonna be a little harder than i thought.
